Our
History in Whippets
Wayde
and I are relative newcomers to the world of whippets. Although
Wayde grew up with dogs (mostly German shepherds), I had never
had a dog, let alone a whippet, until Streaka entered our
lives. That was almost eight years ago and what an impact
this breed has made on us!
Our
overwhelming interest in the breed is its role as a race dog.
Together, we are members of both the British Columbia Whippet
Racing Club (Vancouver) and the River City Racing Association
(Sacramento). I am also a member of the American Whippet Club
and the Whippet Club Deutschland.
Our
Plans for the Future
This
year, we hope to breed our first litter. We're not going this
alone though and have found a breeding partner in our good
friend, Lorna Leinbach of Sailaway Whippets. Lorna not only
introduced us to our first whippet (and her breeders, Tony
and Helena James, whom we are also happy to now call friends
as well) but she has also shared freely her knowledge and
advice over the years.
My
ideal whippet looks like Streaka, has Tighe's loving personality,
Dayton's sense of humour, Derby's independence, and Rogie's
racing temperament. Oh, and it's fast too...
Between
our two households, I think Lorna and I have the right dogs
to provide the building blocks for that ideal whippet. It
may take several generations to even come close to it but,
with that as the ultimate goal, I believe we have a very good
chance of succeeding.
